Biography
For drummer Neil Grandy and guitarist/songwriter
Jeffery Calder, the dissolution of their former band, Dichotic,
was just the fertile soil in which the seeds of their next metal project
would be planted.
Between 2003 and 2008 Jeff lived between Western Canada and South Korea
as Neil worked to further his professional career in the Ottawa area.
During Jeff’s time living in Edmonton, rough versions of "Totality",
"Protorganocide" and "Errors of Our Ways", were
written by himself with contributions by Kris Conners, Wesley Johnson
and Eric Gionet in a project named "Exile".
In 2008, Jeff relocated to Ottawa with the intention of collaborating
with long-time friend Neil Grandy on a bold metal project. Front-man
Darryl Grossauer signed on and began the work of shaping the lyrical
and topical approach to the music.
It was during this time that the band took the name Tual-Masok
and began looking to fill the two voids in their line up. Though the
trio searched tirelessly to fill both spots, a match for neither was
found until early 2009 when they tried out guitarist Charles Leduc and
they became a four-piece with a fresh new dimension to the band’s
dynamic.
Despite trouble filling the spot on bass, the foursome decided to push
ahead with the development of their music and aim to release a demo
by the fall of 2009.
New songs were developed. Old ones reworked. And a new sound was
born.
Tual-Masok's sound is best described as fusing Swedish melodic and technical
rhythm/solo guitars, with lyrical elements of metalcore and Nu-metal
stylings added by fierce drumming typical of Montreal's extreme Metal
scene.
Summer of 2009 welcomes Todd Jodoin, a very talented bass player who
is currently in the process of learning the songs.
Keep your ears peeled and your horns held high. We look forward
to seeing you at our shows.
